Olympus 1030SW - Finally!

Olympus 1030 SW I got this camera a long while ago in February when it first came out as a birthday gift to myself.  The Olympus Stylus 1030SW is a 10.1 megapixel camera that is shock-proof, water-proof, crush-proof, freeze-proof… just almost any proof!  This is just what I needed, something durable and mike-proof…as my things don’t seem to last with my activities such as biking, snowboarding, going to the beach and etc… just name it - and it delivers! It survived!  Until...oh here it comes…  the lens cover fell off and the salinity of the ocean and the sand wore off the black paint. So now I have a silver version - great!  The camera still works!

Knowing how I break things, I got the 3-year warranty.  phew!  I sent it in and B&H and they fixed it, adding a new housing and making it look all brand new.  Yehey! So happy!  It hasn’t seen it’s last adventure yet.

I really like this camera.  It has a 3MP hi-speed rapid multiple shot ability.  You can also take really wide shots directly with its built-in panoramic mode.  The image stabilization is amazing. I take a picture while shaking the camera and it still comes out great!  As for video, its 30fps capture just got updated with a new firmware!!! Finally!  Using an 2GB M+ xD Picture Card, I’m no longer limited to the 10 second limitation when recording. Now, I can record 18 minutes and 44 seconds straight on a 2GB card.  Before this, I was only using 15fps at VGA (640x480)  which was inadequate for our snowboarding videos - we want to capture every second of the action!

All-in-all, good job Olympus! Now, if only I can get a 4GB-32GB xD card…

First Trip :: Mt. Snow

So here’s the video of our first trip to Mt. Snow via emiliosskishop.com on 11/23/08

We got up at 3AM and took the bus at 4:30AM in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  From there it took 4 hours to get to Mt. Snow.  It was a good day and I got to test my new baby, a 147cm 2008 Ride Kink Snowboard.  It’s awesome, light, and easy to maneuver -I didnt have to adust it much.  I’m a goofy rider with 15 degrees on both leg.

This video is also done with my new Powershot A1000 IS Camera. It handled alright. You just need to make sure you have warm batteries, and the standard AA batteries are easy to pop in and out. *ahem* that’s what she said… (inside j/k)  So we went riding from 10AM - 3:30PM. *ahem* nvm. It felt shorter booohoo *ahem*  They need to have an external battery!  That’s all I have to say.  I’m happy I didn’t break it.

I still have aches and pains, but those will go away. I can’t wait for the next time! You can also view the iphone-friendly version of this video :  click here

Off to the Slopes!

Last weekend we were suppose to hit the slopes at Okemo!  However, due to the weather, they postponed their opening day from Nov. 15th to the 22nd.  Boohooo!  This weekend,  my friends and I booked ourselves to one day trip to Mt. Snow, VT.  We leave at 5am!!! Oh boy! =D Off to the bus!  If anyone is interested, visit http://emiliosskishop.com/ See you there!  This will be our first snowboarding trip of the season.

Anyway, I have been preparing! I want to be physically fit.  Whenever I can, I take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk whenever I can. Need those strong legs for those jibs and ramps.

Double Ohhh ... What?

image

I just saw the latest 007 movie.  I liked it, except I wouldn’t class it as a typical Bond movie.  ehh… There were girls, a fast car, lots of action…but where is the technology?  Hmm…the Minority Report-like computer? His phone with GPS Tracking…not to mention a camera that can had 50x zoom with face/retinal recognition? Perhaps.

The story is a cross between so many other movies… I would say 007 is similar to Bourne Identity.  The scene with the rooftops and Bourne’s hunger for revenge is similar to 007’s scenario.  The car/boat chases, women, betrayals… they’re all the same…might even be predictable of all bond movies.  All in all… i would say that I liked it.

Bond is human, clever and resourceful.

Oh BTW! I liked the trailer for Star Trek! I can’t wait to see it.
